Introduction  Many individuals and organizations worked frantically to assist in the rescue and care of pets and animals after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  Much was achieved, though all involved would agree that the scope of the disaster resulted in considerable chaos amongst both caretakers and owners.  The goal of this website is to help plan for pet care and return of pets to owners after future disasters.

This information is based on the experiences of the District 6 Emergency Animal Shelter at the LSU Agcenter’s Parker Coliseum in Baton Rouge, LA following Hurricane Katrina.
